Sixty minutes by car from Cork Airport, the Mealagh Valley outside Bantry holds six lodges on rewilded ground, kept wild on purpose, for the local wildlife as much as for whoever is staying. Each lodge has its own alfresco hot bath and a view across the valley toward Bantry Bay. Wild Hideaways takes no guests under eighteen. For anyone who wants a week with nothing scheduled beyond the sauna at five and the sky after dark.
Inside, each lodge is a single generous room: superking bed, robes and linens laid out, a rainfall shower, and a kitchen stocked for cooking your own dinner if you would rather not go out. The window work is doing the job — panoramic views across the valley toward Bantry Bay — and outside, your own hot bath and firepit, lit whenever you want it. Six lodges only, up to twelve guests across the whole site, which is why the Bayview Sauna and Cold Plunge, open nightly from five to nine, rarely has anyone in it but you. After dark the Wild Sky Dome takes over — stargazing, yoga, guided sessions under a sky recognised enough that the site holds Europe's first DarkSky International Lodging accreditation.
Wild Hideaways Luxury Lodges and Eco Spa sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at wildhideaways.ie, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Six identical lodges, clad in black timber and set well apart across the meadow, each open to the valley through a wall of glass with the bed at its foot. Behind that window sit luxury linens and robes, a rainfall-shower bathroom and a full self-catering kitchen; outside, a private patio with handcrafted seating, a firepit for the long evenings and your own alfresco hot bath. In early summer the gorse flowers right up to the door.
Down by the water a handcrafted alder-wood sauna faces the hills, its cabin marked simply in white paint, a cold plunge tub set alongside. Build up the heat, then step straight out into the open air of the Bayview Sauna and Cold Plunge, run each evening for overnight guests. It is the valley's own take on a wellness circuit — heat, cold, and a long look at the mountains in the pause between rounds.
