Ierou Lochou meets Veriopoulou two streets back from the harbour, and this is where a family has kept the same hotel running since 1977, renovated for the third time in 2020. Twenty-three rooms, adults only, each built to hold one, two or three people behind a private balcony. This is Olympia, in the middle of Kos town, for anyone who wants a week built around a rented bike, a market five minutes on foot, and nothing else scheduled.
Breakfast runs eight until ten — strong coffee, juice pressed that morning, whatever the kitchen bought locally that day — set out in the lobby, which doubles the rest of the day as the place to sit out the heat before the evening's next plan. Rooms keep to the essentials: air conditioning, a 32-inch television, a safe box, a fridge, glasses and cutlery for whatever you carried back from the market, and a balcony with somewhere to sit. Twenty-three rooms only, which is why the desk still knows your name by the second morning. The harbour is a six-minute walk, the Old Town's stalls five minutes the other way, and the same desk will arrange a rental car or a seat on the minibus tour before your coffee is finished.

Behind each door is a room designed with an urban twist: a deep navy or sunlit-yellow feature wall, a geometric wardrobe, a slim writing desk and a bed made up crisp and white. Balconies give onto the town with a pair of chairs for an evening drink, and the practical things are all present, air conditioning, a fridge, a safe, good light and space enough to unpack and stay a while.
Breakfast is set out in the ground-floor room where marble floors, yellow armchairs and tall windows catch the morning sun. A modest buffet and a small bar counter cover coffee and the first meal of the day, and the glass front slides open onto a street terrace shaded by plane trees, the natural spot to linger before heading out into the town.

The Knights' Castle, the Plane Tree of Hippocrates and Casa Romana are each within about twenty minutes on foot, close enough to take together on one walk. Asklepieion, where Hippocrates is said to have taught, is about ten minutes further by the car you can rent at reception — back in time for a balcony and the evening quiet.
