The road into Agia Pelagia climbs above the town, then stops at a rim of cliff where the land runs out over the Aegean. Acro takes its name from the ancient Greek for 'on the edge' — the idea the whole resort is built along, suite by suite, down that line. Nine suites in all, each with its own pool, and the resort takes no guests under eighteen. For two people who want their days measured by yoga at sunrise and a table over the water at sunset, not by an itinerary.

Inside, the rooms keep to what the site calls organic, bohemian design: plain plaster and timber, everything turned toward the sea rather than toward each other. Cremnos, the cliffside restaurant, buys from small farms around the island and reworks old Cretan recipes instead of replacing them; a short walk away, Eleonas serves the same island cuisine from inside an olive grove. There's a Byzantine-style hammam, built on the old idea that washing the body and settling the mind are one errand, and a yoga shala that runs a class every morning before the heat arrives. CIRCLE, the pool bar, pours cocktails built on Mediterranean herbs and juice squeezed from local fruit.

Acro Suites sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at acrosuites.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

Into the rock

Some of the suites were cut straight into existing caverns, their stone ceilings left raw above the bed and a private pool set at the mouth of the cave. Beyond the water there is only the Cretan Sea, framed by an arch of pale rock. Each suite and villa has its own pool and an uninterrupted view, so a whole day here can pass without leaving your own terrace.

The bath house

Wellness is the heart of Acro, gathered in a subterranean bath house of curved plaster and green marble. At its centre sits an authentic Byzantine hammam with a warm marble platform, joined by a dry sauna, treatment rooms and a heated pool. Above ground, a bamboo yoga shala catches the first light for morning practice, and a spa menu of massages and rituals runs quietly through the day.

The most stunning hotel in the most amazing location atop the edge of a mountain side with views into the deep sea. We stayed in the Wave XL room for 10 days which had a lovely view to the sea with an "infinity pool"...

Our tips

The Byzantine Hammam

Book an hour in the bath house before dinner. It's built on the old hammam notion that washing the body and settling the mind were never two separate errands.

Dinner at Cremnos

The kitchen buys from small farms around Crete rather than a single supplier, and reworks old Cretan recipes instead of replacing them. Go while there's still light over the cliff.

UMI after dark

A second table for nights you want Japanese technique against Peruvian heat instead of the Cretan menu — UMI runs on that pairing alone, dish by dish.

Knossos, half an hour out

Heraklion and its old port sit under thirty kilometres away, and Knossos, one of the region's oldest ruins, is just beyond it. Go in the morning; be back at Acro for a late lunch under the olive trees at Eleonas.
