In the far south west of Ireland, where the roads around Killarney are lined with golf courses, Kathleen's Country House keeps to a straightforward job: four rooms, a garden, and tee times already arranged before you arrive. It takes no guests under eighteen. For anyone who wants a week measured out in rounds of golf at Killarney, Kenmare, Dooks and Dingle, with someone else doing the calling ahead.
Kathleen's Country House works from a straightforward idea: golf first, and the rest built around it. There are four rooms, so a tee time can be requested well ahead rather than fought for, and Kathleen holds discount rates at Killarney Golf Club, Kenmare, Dooks and Dingle — ask, and she rings ahead on your behalf. Outside the golf there is a garden, free parking, and breakfast brought to the room if you would rather not come down before an early round. What the site does not say is what the four rooms themselves look like — only that there are four, and that Kathleen is the one who answers.
Kathleens Country House sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Seventeen rooms fill the house, and every one of them faces the gardens. They are comfortable rather than grand — a wide bed under a padded headboard, a dressing table by the window, a framed watercolour, curtains drawn back on lawns and trees. The bathrooms are a genuine point of pride: big, bright and tiled, most with a generous walk-in shower. Doubles, twins and singles mean a couple, or two friends travelling together, each find the right fit.
Beyond the bedrooms the house keeps five sitting rooms, and they are where a country stay slows down. Floral armchairs gather around a wood-burning stove beneath a decorated ceiling; original Irish paintings hang between the windows, and the gardens show green through the glass. It is the kind of room built for a pot of tea after a day on the lakes, or a last drink before bed with nobody's television but your own thoughts.

Asking the house for its rooms…
Lovely place but room was quite load when the room above had a shower
The location was lovely and quiet in a country setting. Plenty of parking on site.
Great location and amazing staff and breakfast. Dainty decor but it had its own vibe to it. Really tasty and homely breakfast. Recommend to stay for a homely feel of staying at a grandmother's you never met.
Location, staff very pleasant and helpful

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
Kathleen keeps discounted rates with Killarney Golf Club, Kenmare, Dooks and Dingle, and will secure a tee time in advance if you ask her before you arrive.
Breakfast can be brought up rather than served downstairs, useful on a morning when the first tee time is early and nobody wants to talk before it.
There's a garden on site — one of the few parts of a golf trip that has nothing to do with a scorecard.
The house also lists hiking, cycling, horse riding, fishing and canoeing among its activities, for whichever day golf isn't the plan.
