Rooms run from a Wilderness Room to a Panorama Log Cabin with its own jacuzzi and windows that run floor to ceiling onto pine and lake; a handful of the Northern Lights rooms are built the same way, so there's nothing between the bed and whatever the sky is doing. Seven rooms in total, which is why the sauna and the lake shore rarely feel shared. Two saunas serve the house — one in the main building, one down at the water — and either can be booked as a private hour at reception if your own room doesn't have one. Mari and Jouko, who turned an old school in Nellim into the family's first Lapland hotel in 2004, built Nangu in 2017 as its smaller, quieter sibling.

The cabins stand apart among frost-heavy pines, each a hand-built log house looking out over the ice of Lake Inari. Warm light spills from tall gable windows onto snow-laden terraces, and inside a fire, a kitchenette and a private sauna wait after a day in the cold. Come dusk the whole clearing glows amber against the blue Arctic twilight.
A few steps from the main lodge, the Aurora Huts turn their whole roof to glass. From the bed you watch the star-filled sky and, on clear winter nights, the northern lights ripple green above the treeline without ever leaving the warmth. It is the quietest possible way to meet Lapland's most famous spectacle.

Nangu closes to regular guests through summer and autumn and reopens for the dark months, when the lake freezes and the sky over it is worth watching from bed. Ask about the closed season too — the whole house, seven rooms and the lake shore sauna, can be booked out for a wedding or a gathering instead.
