The southwestern tip of Bukit is one of the last stretches of the peninsula that hasn't been built up, and White Tortoise Eco Villas sits inside it, above a garden, looking down toward the ocean from six raised villas. Each one has its own private pool and its own share of the 180-degree view over the water; the beaches and the main road are all a short ride away, not underfoot. It is adults-only, kept for the two of you and however many days you can spare with nothing scheduled on them.
Each villa stands above the garden on its own elevated deck, built from reclaimed wood, local hardwood and alang-alang grass, with rain collected off the roof and filtered before it goes back into the ground. There's no fixed hour to work around for food: breakfast comes with the room and is eaten whenever you're up, and lunch and dinner are cooked fresh each day by the resort's Javanese chef in a bamboo restaurant at the foot of the property, using local and organic ingredients where the kitchen can get them. Six villas, which is why the pool below yours is never anyone else's. The one you'll likely meet twice is Maya, the guard dog the resort took in off the street.
White Tortoise Eco Villas sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at whitetortoisebali.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Every villa keeps its own pool and an extended sundeck reaching out over the ravine, screened by heliconia and palm so the water feels entirely yours. Loungers and a fringed Balinese umbrella face west, where the garden falls away toward a far strip of sea. It is made for the end of the day: slip in as the light turns gold, watch the sun drop past the treeline, and let the hilltop quiet settle in.
The villas are true Javanese joglos, old teak structures rescued, restored and rebuilt here plank by plank with locally and legally cut hardwood. Terracotta-tiled roofs rise to carved finials, verandahs are trimmed with fretwork, and the timber has the deep patina of age rather than stain. Set apart in their own pockets of garden, they give each couple a whole hand-built house to themselves.

Breakfast is included and cooked to order rather than laid out at a set hour, so there's nothing to rush down for. Come to the bamboo restaurant at the foot of the property when you're ready, not before.
Lunch and dinner are made fresh each day by the resort's Javanese chef, leaning on local and organically grown ingredients where the kitchen can source them. There's no printed menu to check in advance; ask what came in that day.
Padang Padang is about a three-minute ride from the villa, Bingin roughly six — both close enough to do before the midday heat, with the rest of the afternoon left over to come back to the pool on your own deck.
The temple is ten minutes away by ride, set on the cliffs above the sea. It's an easy half-day out, and you're back at the villa well before dinner.
