Behind a garden gate in Canggu, six villas sit spaced through jungle planting, each with its own pool and nobody else in the frame. This is Desa Hay: couples-only, though a group that books out the whole garden can bring the children. The minibar is stocked to what you drink, not a standard list, and the playlist in your villa is picked for you before you arrive. For two people who want a week with nothing scheduled beyond the pool and dinner at Ijo.

Each villa opens onto its own square of garden and its own pool, walled off from the villa next door by jungle planting, so from your daybed there is genuinely no one else to see. Six villas total, which is why the resort can promise a minibar stocked to your own habits and a playlist chosen before you check in, rather than something generic left for everyone. Evenings move to Ijo, the resort's own restaurant, where Chef Rian Diana works tapas-style plates from ingredients bought mostly on the island, and Kadek Putra runs the bar — cocktails, not a wine list read off a card, and a kitchen small enough to rework a dish around a dietary restriction rather than shrug.

Desa Hay sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at desahay.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The garden villas

A hand-carved door opens to a private world of natural stone walls and dense, jungle-inspired planting. Inside, timber and stone meet under the tall North Sumatran roof, and floor-to-ceiling windows blur the line between the room and the garden. The surrounding terrace is yours alone: a plunge pool set into the deck, a rattan swing chair to read away an afternoon, and a table for two for breakfast in the green. It is a house built for slowness and for company of the quiet kind.

The table at Ijo

Ijo is the resort's own restaurant and bar, kept exclusively for Desa Hay's guests. Under a timber pavilion hung with rattan lamps and trailing plants, Chef Rian Diana serves tapas-style dishes drawn from around the world and built on locally sourced ingredients, while mixologist Kadek Putra pours signature cocktails at the bar. Breakfast, lunch and dinner all happen here, from an intimate meal for two to a slow evening over drinks, and the small kitchen is happy to work around any dietary need.

The accommodation is absolutely beautiful - super lush and green with amazing plants and decor. The bed was super comfy and the options for teas were delicious. We rented a moped to get into town and that worked...

Our tips

Book out the whole garden

Take all six villas at once and Desa Hay becomes a private compound: everyone keeps their own villa and pool, then meets on the deck or at Ijo for dinner. It is the one arrangement here that admits children — book any single villa on its own and the couples-only rule holds.

Dinner at Ijo

The resort's only restaurant does tapas-style plates drawn from around the world but built mostly on ingredients bought on the island, through breakfast, lunch and dinner. Say what you cannot eat before the first course — the kitchen is small and flexible enough to rework a dish around it.

The minibar, stocked to you

Ask ahead and the minibar in your villa is filled with what you actually drink rather than a standard tray, and the room's playlist is set before you arrive. Kadek Putra runs the bar at Ijo if you want the cocktails to carry on past the villa door.

Where the power comes from

Desa Hay runs on renewable energy, manages its own water use, and works to cut waste rather than just report on it. It also puts money into local initiatives on the island, so ask at the desk which ones are current if that matters to your stay.
