The building goes back further than most in Albufeira: neo-Islamic Romantic lines from the nineteenth century, raised over a defensive wall that has stood beside the pool since the twelfth. A judge lived here once, before the rooms were let out one by one. Nine of them now, which keeps the pool and the garden free of any real crowd. Beyond the wall, the sand starts within a few steps, and the old town is close enough to walk to without checking a map. In the evening, the bar and the coffee shop downstairs fill the same courtyard the old wall has watched over for centuries. The hammam and the jacuzzi are there for whichever hour you would rather spend indoors.
