Jalan Bisma keeps its lane free of scooters — you walk in past cafés and rice terrace, with the river doing the only talking. At the end of it, behind a run of Joglo roofs built from reclaimed teak, Sanctuary Villas keeps ten private pools spread across ground no two villas share. It takes no guests under eighteen. For anyone who wants a week with nothing scheduled beyond the hour the pool catches the light.
The villas split into two builds. Six sit under Joglo roofs of reclaimed teak, soaring to open-air ceilings that let the light move all day; the largest take their curved roofline from Minangkabau houses further north, with room enough for three bedrooms around one pool. Every villa is its own building — ten of them, spread across the plot so no window looks into another — each with a private pool that opens straight off the living room. Breakfast comes à la carte, cooked to order, and is carried to whichever villa you are in rather than a shared table. Palem, the signature villa booked whole, adds its own spa, gym and a yoga shala built into a treehouse.
Sanctuary Villas sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Every villa is built around its own pool. By day it holds the sky and the green of the garden; after dark, with the lanterns lit and the brick still warm, it becomes the quietest room in the house. There are no shared decks and no neighbours to negotiate, so the water, the open pavilion and the whole of the evening belong to the two of you alone.
Bathing here is treated as a ritual rather than a rush. A carved stone tub sits under a bamboo roof with the jungle pressed against the glass, and on request the staff will fill an outdoor tub with frangipani and marigold for a Balinese flower bath. Book a massage in the villa, and in the signature residence a private spa with a sauna and a cold plunge sits waiting beneath the trees.
