H Riad Charme d'Orient Adults Only Rooms & prices

In the medina of Marrakech, past the walls that give away nothing, a door opens onto a patio open to the sky and the street noise stops. Riad Charme d'Orient is seven rooms built around that patio, in the plain tradition of the old Moroccan house, and it takes no guests under eighteen. For two people who want the city outside and nothing scheduled inside, this is where you stay.

Each of the seven rooms opens off the same courtyard, so the light you wake to is whatever falls through the open roof above the patio, not a window onto the street. Rooms carry reversible air conditioning, a safe, a closet, a kettle tray, and a private bathroom with a hairdryer, towels and a robe; every one is non-smoking. Climb to the terrace in the afternoon and sit under the pergola — the view runs flat over the rooftops of the medina, and it is one of the few places in the house with a horizon. Breakfast comes with every stay. Laurence and Alain have kept the door for more than ten years, with Said, Soufiane, Latifa and Fatima keeping the rest of it running.

Riad Charme d'Orient Adults Only sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at riadcharmedorient.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The seven rooms

No two rooms repeat. One wears a yellow tadelakt headboard, another a blue-Majorelle bathroom, a third a vaulted ceiling painted by hand; the rooftop room opens onto its own pergola-shaded seat. Beds sit in carved-plaster alcoves under keyhole arches, floors are pisé and brick, and stained-glass shutters throw coloured light across the tiles as the afternoon turns.

Spa and hammam

A small spa and a Beldi hammam sit inside the riad itself. The steam bath rehydrates and purifies before a scrub, and traditional massages, relaxing or toning, are laid on to order. A jacuzzi runs from March to November, and lighter touches, facials, manicure and pedicure, hair removal, are booked by asking at the desk. It is wellness kept close to the room, not sent out to a clinic across town.

Our tips

The terrace under the pergola

Climb up in the late afternoon, when the light turns and the rooftops of the medina spread out flat in every direction. It is one of the few points in the riad with a horizon, and there is shade if you want it.

Tanjia from the embers

Ask ahead and the kitchen will do a tanjia — the terracotta pot buried in the ashes of a hot fire until the meat falls apart — alongside the more familiar tajines and couscous. Lunch and dinner are not automatic; they are booked on-site, so mention it in the morning if you want the table set.

The hammam inside

The riad keeps its own hammam and a hot tub, so there is no need to go looking for a bathhouse elsewhere in the medina. Come back to mint tea in the patio and no plan for the rest of the afternoon.

The patio lounges

Several low salons sit around the open courtyard. Pick one in the morning before the heat settles, coffee within reach, and nobody will hurry you out of it.
