Twenty minutes south of Marrakech, the road leaves the city for the Ourika plain, and the Atlas rises straight ahead through the windscreen. At the end of it is a pisé house the colour of the earth around it, with gardens to read in, a pool, and a small farm where donkeys, ducks and peacocks are kept. Asnouss keeps to adults only, and it is built for anyone who wants the mountains close and Marrakech twenty minutes away, not zero.
The walls are pisé — earth rammed the traditional Berber way — and the house doubles as a working smallholding: donkeys, ducks, rabbits, peacocks and a flock of sheep, kept beyond the gardens rather than staged for a photograph. There are gardens to read in and a pool to sit beside; five rooms only, so neither the pool nor the garden chairs are ever really contested. Breakfast is included, lunch by the pool is bookable separately, and the kitchen — run on organic, fair-trade ingredients — will build a plate around vegan, vegetarian, halal, gluten-free or allergy needs if you ask in advance. Valérie and Patrick run Asnouss themselves, out of the same pisé house they call home.
Asnouss sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at asnouss.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
A long pool runs the length of the garden, its terracotta surround the same ochre as the earth the house is built from. Around it the grounds are planted thick with olive, oleander, agave and bougainvillea, with shaded loungers and a canvas-roofed pavilion where the afternoon heat is easiest to sit out. Guests have the water to themselves.
The kitchen cooks with organic and fair-trade produce and adapts each plate to what you eat, whether that is vegetarian, dairy-free or halal. Tables are laid out in the garden under a parasol, and as the light drops they are set with candles and posies of lavender and bougainvillea, a tagine lid and bread in a woven basket close at hand.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
Breakfast is included and eaten at whatever hour suits you; afterwards, cross the garden to the smallholding — donkeys, ducks, rabbits, peacocks and sheep kept as a working farm behind the pool, not as a photo stop.
The poolside restaurant is open to outside guests too, by reservation, and the kitchen cooks from organic, fair-trade ingredients. Tell them in advance if you eat vegan, vegetarian, halal or gluten-free, or need an allergen-free plate — they build around it rather than working around a fixed menu.
The house arranges a driver into Marrakech and back, twenty minutes each way, or further out for a day's 4x4, quad, horse-riding, trekking or canyoning trip into the Atlas foothills. Either way, you're back on the plain by evening, with the sheep and peacocks for company.
Fitness classes, yoga, guided hikes and massage can all be booked directly at the lodge, at an extra charge — no need to arrange anything before you arrive.
