Inland from Tavira, past groves that were left to regenerate before a single stone was laid, a track opens onto seven rooms set around a natural swimming lake. Casa Terra was built from native, natural materials, its water drawn from rain and its power from the sun. It takes no guests under eighteen, and each room opens onto its own terrace and garden. For anyone who wants a week built around the pool, the lake and an orchard that supplies its own breakfast.
The seven rooms were designed one by one, not repeated: two sit upstairs in the main house with a view that runs to the sea, the other five stand around it, each with a private terrace that opens straight onto the garden. The house was built with native, natural materials on land that was regenerated before it went up. Rainwater and wastewater are recovered on site, solar panels cover the power, and a permaculture orchard feeds the kitchen. Seven rooms only, which is why the pool at the top of the property and the natural swimming lake below it are never crowded. Breakfast is entirely organic — slow-fermentation bread made in house, vegetables and fruit from the garden and orchard — and vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other needs are worked in without fuss.
Altanure Casa Terra sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at booking.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Behind each door is the same quiet idea: space, natural light and a direct line to the garden. Here a panel of rammed earth is left bare above the bed, terracotta tiles run cool underfoot, and reclaimed timber and lime-washed walls do the talking. Sheer curtains and deep-set windows keep the rooms shaded through the long Algarve summer, and two of the seven sit upstairs, where the outlook reaches past the trees toward the distant sea.
Above the food forest the land opens to a round swimming pool edged in warm brick, with a freestanding rain shower and cushioned daybeds set out under a reed pergola. The water catches the turquoise of the sky, olive and carob trees screen it from the countryside beyond, and it is the easy centre of a slow Casa Terra day. Rainwater and wastewater are recovered and solar energy carries the load, so the comfort never comes at the landscape's expense.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
The pool sits at the highest point of the grounds; the swimming lake, entirely natural, lies below it. Both are part of the same design that collects rainwater and runs on solar power, so swimming here costs the land almost nothing.
Breakfast is 100% organic and cooked from what the permaculture orchard and vegetable garden produce, with bread made slowly in the Casa Terra kitchen. Say if you eat vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free, or have any intolerance — it is built into the menu, not bolted on.
A fully equipped yoga shala sits among the seven rooms for anyone who wants a practice before the day gets going, and the hammam is there for after it. Horse riding, hiking, cycling and canoeing are all set up from the house if you want the day to go further than the garden.
Casa Terra can be booked in full — for a retreat, a family holiday or an event — so all seven rooms, the pool, the lake and the yoga shala belong to one group only. Outside of that, each room is booked on its own, with its own terrace and direct access to the garden.
