H The Ashmere Tiny House Rooms & prices

Templehall is a grassy paddock two and a half miles off the A1, on the edge of Coldingham, with St Abbs and its diving grounds a mile and a half up the coast. At the end of the field, angled for the view over open fields to the sea, stands The Ashmere: a single tiny house on wheels, built by Kenny the local joiner and its owner over the winter of 2021/22, and kept adults-only. For two people who want a week where the sea is the view from every window and nothing else is scheduled.

Inside, one room does the work of a house: oak floorboards, a seating area with drawers built into its base, and a kitchen with a full-sized oven and two-ring hob at the far end. The breakfast bar faces the sea, and there is barely a spot in the room where the view is not. Up the ash staircase is the one bedroom, its bed set under a velux window cut into the roof for watching the dark skies, and a second window that holds only sea. The bedding is 100% Egyptian cotton sateen, the towels match, and the shower room runs on copious hot water and an electric radiator that keeps them dry. It is one house only, which is why the paddock is never shared. Kenny the joiner built it with its owner over the winter of 2021/22.

The Ashmere Tiny House sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at templehallholidays.co.uk, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The living end

Step through the door and the tiny house opens along its length: a soft seating nook with a smart TV at one end, the kitchen and its breakfast bar at the other, and the ash staircase rising between them. The worktop carries a full-sized oven, a two-ring hob and a proper fridge, with quality cookware and hand-thrown crockery in the cupboards. High-speed wifi reaches every corner, though the sea framed in the window makes a fair case for leaving the phone face down.

Under the velux

The ash stair leads up to the mezzanine, tucked beneath the pitched roof with wardrobe and storage worked into the space below. The double bed is dressed in Egyptian cotton sateen and feather pillows, with adjustable reading lights to either side. One window holds the view over the fields to the sea; a velux set into the roof turns the dark Borders sky into a headboard, opened on warm nights to let the sea air move through.

Our tips

The velux over the bed

Stargazing doesn't require leaving the mattress: the velux window cut into the roof over the bed frames the dark skies above Berwickshire, and the second window by the pillow holds only sea. Leave the panel radiator on low and the smart TV switched off.

Dinner at the fire pit

Outside, the fire pit has a grill top built in, with a starter bag of logs included and more charcoal sold on site if you want it. There's a full-sized oven and two-ring hob inside too, so dinner is whichever way the evening goes.

Diving at St Abbs

St Abbs, with its nature reserve and diving grounds, is a mile and a half along the coast from Templehall. Back at the tiny house, the panel radiator and the electric towel rail have the bathroom warm and dry before you've finished changing.

Coldingham's Blue Flag beach

Coldingham's beach carries a Blue Flag, and the village sits two and a half miles from the A1 and under an hour from Edinburgh, close enough for a day out and back to the fire pit by dark.
