The road into Canyamel loses its shopfronts a few minutes before the coast, and what is left is pine forest running down to the water. Pleta de Mar sits behind that treeline, thirty suites turned toward the Mediterranean, run by a Mallorcan family hotel group that has kept this stretch of coast much as it found it. It takes no guests under sixteen. For anyone who wants a week where the only real decision is which of the three ways down to the sea to take.
Inside, the suites keep to noble materials and a quiet palette: stone, timber, contemporary Mediterranean lines, a considered handful of art on the walls. Windows run the length of a wall and open onto a private terrace, so the pines and the sea are never fully shut out. Thirty suites in total, spread wide enough that the two infinity pools facing the Mediterranean rarely feel shared. Every suite has its own outdoor shower; the higher categories add a private garden, a hot tub set into the terrace, or a sea-facing pool of their own. This is adults-only, and it shows in how little there is to hear besides the pines.

Inside, the palette almost never leaves cream, oak and stone.
The kitchen is run under Marc Fosh, the first British chef in Spain to hold a Michelin star, and the dining room opens straight onto the lawn behind a bank of lavender. Dinner is a tasting menu of Mediterranean cooking; there is a second, more informal table and a bamboo bar for the hours either side of it.

Sa Pleta by Marc Fosh cooks off a wood-fired grill, built around whatever the island's fishermen and small growers bring in that day. Lunch is unhurried; by dinner the tables are lit and the sea has gone dark behind them.
The hotel keeps three named accesses to the coast: the quiet cove of Sa Cova dels Albardans, the stone staircase that drops straight into the Mediterranean from neighbouring Can Simoneta, and the sandy beach at Canyamel itself.
