West End Road in Negril runs along limestone cliffs, and where the tarmac opens onto the sea, a scatter of cottages sits cut into the rock, each one close enough to hear the water below. This is The Caves — nine rooms, a saltwater pool, and a private cave kept for dinner, adults-only by house policy. For the two of you who want the sea within reach of the bed and nothing scheduled.

The cottages are cut into the limestone cliff itself, close enough to the edge that the sea is the view from every window — the glittering sapphire sea the house is built to face. Nine rooms only, which is why the saltwater pool and the two dining gazebos rarely feel shared. Dinner can be taken in one of the private caves in the rock, and the evening usually starts at the Blackwell Rum Bar, a few steps above the water. The spa looks out over the same sea, with a sauna, a jacuzzi and a private hot tub set along the cliff edge.

The Caves sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at thecaveshotel.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

Cottages on the cliff

A dozen or so cottages are threaded along the clifftop, no two alike. One is capped in thatch and painted sky-blue over a base of local stone; another balances a carved balcony above the sea grape. Shutters fold back to trade a room for a view, and short stairs drop from the rock straight into deep, clear water.

Dining in the caves

After dark the property lights its signature table inside a sea cave, a grotto hollowed from the cliff and set with candles that flicker off the wet limestone. Dinner arrives course by course while the water laps a few feet away; by day the same coves hold a rum bar and open-air rooms where meals are served to the horizon.

Our tips

Dinner in the private cave

Ask about a table in one of the caves cut into the cliff — it is a fixed setting, not a dining room, so it is arranged rather than walked into. The kitchen will also build a special-diet menu if you ask ahead.

The Blackwell Rum Bar

Go before dark. It sits above the water on the same cliff as the cottages and is the natural stop before dinner in one of the two gazebos, while the light is still doing the work.

Negril's seven-mile beach

The white sand is a few minutes' drive from the West End cliffs — spend the morning there, then back to the pool and the cave for dinner.

Flying into Montego Bay

The house recommends Sangster International in Montego Bay over the closer Negril airstrip; the drive in, about 80 minutes and 52 miles, is faster and more scenic, and a driver is arranged to meet the flight.
