The coast road out of Ocho Rios thins to a quiet stretch at Boscobel, where four cascading levels drop down a cliff face to a small private beach pinned between two piers on Jamaica's one-mile reef. Moxons Beach Club is the six rooms built into that cliff, born out of a 1970s restaurant that once drew Elizabeth Taylor and Bob Marley to its sea-view tables. It takes no guests under eighteen, and it's kept for anyone who wants hours in the reef and nothing else on the calendar.
Ask for a room facing the sea and you get a balcony wide enough for two chairs and a clear run to the water; the courtyard rooms look inward, onto the cliff garden instead. Both kinds hold the same short list inside: air conditioning, a wet bar, a daybed, and a window onto the reef below. Six rooms in total, which is why the pool and the two piers rarely hold more than a handful of people at once. The restaurant runs from seven in the morning into the evening, a self-serve grill filling the hours between meals, two bars if you'd rather carry a drink to the rail instead. Johanne rebuilt the place herself after Hurricane Ivan wrecked it in 2004, and she's still often around, greeting guests by name.
Moxons Beach Club sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at moxonsbeachclub.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Most of the twenty-five rooms face the Caribbean, opening through sliding doors onto private balconies that hang over the water with an uninterrupted view of the reef. Inside, the style is bohemian and island-easy: dark carved beds, wicker lamps, a wet bar and a daybed in the corner, with air conditioning and a smart TV for the hot afternoons. Ocean-view or courtyard, each room is its own quiet corner to settle into.
At the heart of the property a planted courtyard climbs between the yellow buildings, its patterned blue-and-cream tiles threaded with palms, ferns and flowering shrubs and shaded by canvas sails. White staircases and balconies link the four tiers, and benches sit in the green corners. Even when the small hotel is full, the layout keeps things private enough that it can feel like you have the whole place to yourselves.

The beach sits between two piers on Jamaica's one-mile reef, and the water stays warm enough to snorkel or kayak for hours without a wetsuit. Ask at the desk for gear and go out before the afternoon boats arrive.
The restaurant runs from seven in the morning to nine at night, but the self-serve grill covers the gaps in between. Take a plate to the rail and watch the piers instead of a table inside.
Ian Fleming Airport is five minutes from the gate, with American Airlines running daily round trips from Miami — enough to make a long weekend of it rather than a full week.
Once the reef goes dark and the bars empty out, the games room downstairs has a billiards table and board games for the rest of the evening.
