H Makanda by the Sea Rooms & prices

The trail from Makanda drops through jungle for about fifteen minutes before it opens onto Wild Beach, an undeveloped stretch of Pacific coastline shaded by palm and almond trees rather than umbrellas, with the kind of open swell that never reaches Manuel Antonio's sheltered coves. Above it, on the bluff, sits Makanda by The Sea, which takes no guests under eighteen. For anyone who wants a week built around one wild beach and very little else.

Mornings here point toward the water: a walk or a national park visit first, then the descent to Wild Beach before the day heats up — reception will already know the swell and tell you honestly if it's a swimming day or not. Loungers and towels are down there waiting, drinks arrive when you call for them, and the WiFi reaches that far if you want it to. Lunch comes back up the hill to Árbol Restaurant, and the nine rooms mean the adults-only infinity pool in the afternoon never feels crowded. Evenings the beach faces west, so reception can tell you when the sun goes down and you can be there thirty minutes ahead of it.

Makanda by the Sea sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

Suites in the canopy

Because the levels are tiered, no two rooms look at each other — each has its own stretch of forest and its own piece of Pacific. Inside, the design leans warm and dark: velvet, terracotta, driftwood, and lighting that comes on like fireflies once the sun drops behind the trees.

Pools above the trees

Two pools anchor the property — a mosaic infinity pool set against the ocean view, and the main pool ringed by rainforest, with a swim-up bar and hanging chairs at its edge. Wildlife is part of the arrangement: monkeys, iguanas, toucans and hummingbirds all pass through the branches over the water.

Our tips

The trail down to Wild Beach

The path is steep in sections and takes about fifteen minutes on foot — wear closed-toe shoes, or ask reception the evening before for a golf cart down instead. Either way, check with reception first: they track the swell daily and will tell you plainly if it's a swimming day.

The Day Lunch Basket

A freshly prepared lunch basket, packed to go, so a day at Wild Beach doesn't mean a trip back up the hill until you're ready for one.

Sunset at Wild Beach

The cove faces west, so the Pacific sunset is unobstructed from the sand. Ask reception for the exact time and arrive thirty minutes early, then take the trail — or the golf cart — back up for dinner at Árbol Restaurant.

Dry season or green season

December through April brings calmer seas and steadier swimming days at Wild Beach. May through November trades some of that calm for stronger swell, bigger skies and a heavier jungle on the walk down — ask reception which you'll get before you plan a beach day.
