Hotel Lobby sits in central Seville, close enough to the Puente de Triana that the bridge is the first landmark you'll be given as directions. The building is the old Palacio Pickman, restored under the eye of Sevillian architect Juan Pedro Donaire, and the room you sleep in carries an original, signed piece by the artist Balcris. It is an adults-only house, kept for two people who would rather look at the art on the walls than plan the day.
Eleven rooms is the whole of it, which keeps the ground-floor coffee bar from ever holding more than a few people at once. Juanjo Vega, of the Seville studio Filamento Creativo, decorated each one individually, and the artist Balcris, working out of Jerez, followed with an original, signed piece for every room — so the room you're given won't match the one down the hall. The address is the old Palacio Pickman, renovated by the studio of Sevillian architect Juan Pedro Donaire to hold a hotel without losing what the building was. Downstairs there's a bar, a fitness room, and breakfast that comes to you if you'd rather not leave the room.

Corinthian columns and a gilded cornice survive from the palace's first life, framing beds dressed in crisp white against charcoal walls. The interior designer gave each room its own character and its own colour, so a night here feels less like a hotel stay and more like sleeping inside a private collection of paintings and salvaged antiques.
Above each bed hangs a canvas signed by the artist, its blues and golds echoed by onyx panels that are lit from behind until the headboard reads like a lantern. The art was not borrowed to fill the walls; it was commissioned for these rooms, and it tends to be the first thing you notice walking in and the last light you turn off at night.
