Oudezijds Achterburgwal runs narrow and canalside through the Red Light District, five minutes from Central Station, and the stairs up from the door are steep enough to notice with a bag in each hand. At the top: four rooms in a canal house older than the neon outside. Hotel Torenzicht takes no guests under eighteen and makes no apology for where it stands, windows and all. For anyone who wants to be in the middle of it, not near it.
The rooms are plain: twin beds, a sink, a fridge, hot and cold water at the tap. Two are en suite; for the rest, the shower and toilet are down the hall and shared, which is the trade you make for the price and the location. There are four rooms in the whole building, so the stairs and the hallway rarely feel crowded, whatever is happening in the street below. Breakfast is continental, laid out between nine and ten, and after that the bar downstairs takes over — open to guests around the clock, a big screen for match days, Heineken and Strongbow on tap. It is not a hotel that pretends to be somewhere quieter.
Hotel Torenzicht sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 24 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The bar under the hotel is open to guests day and night — three screens for match days, one of them showing Fox Sports and Sports 1, Heineken and Strongbow on tap. It's the natural last stop after a night out in the neighbourhood, and nobody minds if that's two in the morning.
The restaurant in the basement cooks its own sandwiches, and the Sparerib and Hot Chicken versions have a name for themselves nearby. Order a coffee with a slice of apple pie or New York cheesecake if you'd rather sit slower, or have a takeaway meal packaged to carry back upstairs.
Casa Rosso stands directly across the water from the hotel, and the Bananenbar and Moulin Rouge are a few minutes further along the same canal. See what you came to see, then it's a two-minute walk back to the bar downstairs.
Central Station and Dam Square are both five minutes on foot, in the quieter direction from the hotel's own street. Useful for the train in, and just as useful when you want ten minutes away from the neon before turning back.
