In the center of El Cotillo, on Fuerteventura's northwest coast, a 1920s Majorero house sits behind a plain façade with two interior patios you don't see from the street. Inside, the corridor gives onto rooms named for the plants of the island — Agave, Bouganville, Cactus, Dátiles — in a warmly restored Riad-style renovation finished in 2019. El Hotelito del Cotillo takes no guests under eighteen, and it keeps just four rooms, for two people who want the town on foot and nothing else scheduled.
The walls and floors keep the warm colours of hand-laid mosaic tile, and the corridor runs between two patios that pull outdoor light straight through the house. Each of the four rooms opens off that corridor — a double bed, a private shower room with a hairdryer, a minibar, a safe — and with only four of them, the upstairs terrace never feels shared. That terrace is where the day ends: a jacuzzi, an outdoor shower, and loungers under a sky that turns, on this stretch of northwest coast, the colour of the sunsets El Cotillo is known for. The building itself dates to the 1920s, a Majorera house the current owners rebuilt between 2017 and 2019 without losing the local tile and plaster underneath the newer Moroccan-inspired finish.
El Hotelito del Cotillo sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at hotelitocotillo.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
The house saves its best for the top floor. A broad sun terrace opens straight to the sky with a Jacuzzi, an outdoor shower and cushioned loungers, framed by low white walls and the flat roofs of El Cotillo. It is where the day slows down — a long warm soak, a book in the shade of the chill-out corner, and a front-row seat as the sun drops into the ocean.
Behind heavy old doors, the four bedrooms trade in calm. Ochre tadelakt walls catch the light through small shuttered windows, pierced-metal lanterns throw patterns after dark, and printed canvases of the island's palms, agave and cactus nod to the dry land outside. Rustic wooden nightstands, a beaten-gold lamp and a woven throw in sea blues finish each one.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
Climb to the upper floor for the jacuzzi, the outdoor shower and the loungers set out for the evening. Facing northwest, it is where you watch the sunset the town is known for, then stay for the quiet after.
A snack bar called Piedra Playa sits twenty metres from the door, open every day except Monday, with Canarian and Spanish plates. It's close enough to walk back for the last of the terrace light.
Both are within walking distance, along with the harbour and the Torre del Tostón. Reach the Faro del Tostón too, if you're willing to walk a little further.
Board and gear rental, plus lessons, are all a walk from the door, alongside bike rental and car hire if you'd rather cover more ground. Back to the terrace jacuzzi once the wind drops.
