H Grand Hotel Bellevue Rooms & prices

Freiheitsstraße 194, Merano, opposite Mazziniplatz: a townhouse that has stood there since 1883, its staircase lit by crystal chandeliers taller than the people who climb them. That is the Grand Hotel Bellevue, an adults-only house of five rooms, a hundred and fifty metres from the train station and five hundred from the old town. There's no spa here — the house decided against one — but the Terme Meran thermal baths are ten walking minutes away. For anyone who wants a week with nothing scheduled and nobody under eighteen in the corridor.

The building has stood at Freiheitsstraße 194, opposite Mazziniplatz, since 1883, protected as a historic monument and kept that way on purpose: no fashionable makeover, no spa wing bolted on. Inside, ceilings run high, and a staircase climbs past crystal chandeliers taller than a person before you ever reach a room. There are five rooms, each cut to the shape of the old house rather than a repeated floor plan — the third floor keeps its own skylight, another keeps a view over Freiheitsstraße — which means no two look the same. Air conditioning, a desk, a private bathroom with a shower: plain rather than dressed up, is how the house describes its own style.

Grand Hotel Bellevue sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at hotel-bellevue-meran.it, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

A Liberty landmark

Bellevue has written a page of Merano's history since 1883, its columned entrance and engraved name still marking the corner of Piazza Mazzini. Inside, the wrought-iron balustrade, gilded mirrors and moulded ceilings belong to the original 19th-century Liberty building, kept rather than replaced. The historical centre and its arcades lie about five hundred metres away.

Mornings at the bar

Days begin in the mirrored salon, where red damask banquettes and a marble-topped bar sit beneath wall sconces and a chandelier. A generous breakfast buffet is laid out here each morning, and later the same room pours espresso and an evening drink. Gilded mirrors double the light from the tall windows facing the street.

Our tips

The staircase at the entrance

Past the door, the first thing that registers is scale: a staircase climbing past crystal chandeliers taller than a person, inside a building that has held this corner of Freiheitsstraße since 1883. Ask for the third-floor room, the one tucked under its own skylight, if what you want is a room unlike the other four.

Breakfast buffet, seven till ten

The buffet runs from seven to ten, laid out under the same high ceilings as the rest of the house. After that, the old town is five hundred metres away for lunch and dinner, back to a quiet room once the tables clear.

Terme Meran, ten minutes on foot

There's no spa on site — a deliberate omission — but the Terme Meran thermal baths are a ten-minute walk, and Merano's promenades along the Passer river are about the same distance. Back to the townhouse afterward, past the chandeliers and up to your room.

Christmas market at Thermenplatz

In December, it's a ten-minute walk to the Christkindlmarkt at Thermenplatz — wooden stalls, mulled wine on the Passer promenade's viewing platform, sweets under the lit trees. Then back to Freiheitsstraße and a room with the shutters closed.
