Villa Mara Carmel sits above that bluff, nine rooms behind a residential face that gives nothing away from the street. It opened as an inn in 1929 and has kept a house's scale since. The house takes no guests under twenty-one. For two people who want the beach and no plan for the day.
The rooms run northwest-facing and window-heavy, so whatever light Carmel is doing over the bluff ends up on the bed by afternoon. Palettes shift room to room — stony blue and rattan in one, pink and cream in the next, green and grass cloth in a third — which is why the house says no two are quite alike. Bathrooms are heated-floored, fitted with Waterworks taps and Le Labo bottles under the rain shower. Nine rooms only, so happy hour rarely means waiting for a chair. Fruit and a mini bar of locally sourced snacks and drinks come with the room, already paid for. Most balconies face Pebble Beach Golf Links and Stillwater Cove, and on some, a fire pit gets lit against the evening air.

Beyond expectations. What a great get a way boutique hotel only 1/2 block walk to Carmel beach…. Listening to the waves at night was relaxing and leaving the windows open with a very warm duvet made our night sleep...
This place was fantastic. One block from the beach, Private parking! If you have even been to the beach in Carmel, you know parking can be a challenge. If you want a romantic get away, you need to check this place out!
