Phuket Town's old quarter is shophouses and incense stalls, hardware shops and a Sino-Portuguese façade that gives no clue what waits behind it until you're through the door and standing in a courtyard of brass, bronze and copper. Hotel Verdigris takes its name from the pigment those metals turn with age — an unstable blue-green, the same shifting colour the hotel borrows for its idea of Martina Rozells, a Eurasian woman from 18th-century Phuket it never pins down. Adults-only, and kept for two people with nothing scheduled beyond a walk through Old Town.
The twelve rooms are built from the same three metals as the name: brass fittings if you're in the smallest of them, a bronze-toned daybed and a Terrazzo bathtub one floor up, and on the top floor, suites where the copper turns into a 'Verdigris' wall and a floating bathtub above your own mosaic plunge pool. Steelwork throughout — the reception counter, the bedframes, the pendant lights over the Sunroom glasshouse — came out of the Underwood workshop, and three hundred paintings by Thavorn, the old town's most established painter, cover the guestroom walls in dreamscapes of Peranakan architecture, so you wake to a different one depending on which room you're given. Kriangrat, a Phuket Baba artist, hand-painted the nightstands in floral and animal motifs. Twelve rooms is few enough that the marble sundeck rarely has anyone else on it.
Hotel Verdigris sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at booking.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
Each room borrows its name and palette from a metal, and the copper-green of verdigris runs through cushions, tiling and trim. Caned daybeds and rattan chairs sit beneath framed watercolours of Phuket's shophouses, while brass beds, terrazzo baths and hand-painted nightstands nod to the Peranakan houses just beyond the door. The top-floor suites add sunny terraces and mosaic plunge pools of their own.
A glass sunroom is attached to the side of the house, its steel frame made by a local workshop and its walls lined with Peranakan tile panels. Here breakfast arrives as dim sum and congee on embossed porcelain, and by evening the room turns into a private dining space for an intimate chef's table. Rattan chairs, potted greenery and shifting daylight make it the social heart of the hotel.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
The Sunroom is a glasshouse attached to the hotel, open for lunch and dinner in full view of Old Town's foot traffic. Ask for the private chef's table if you want a birthday dinner or a work lunch nobody interrupts, and email ahead — stay@hotelverdigris.com — since the menu is arranged around what you ask for, not fixed.
One thing to keep for yourself: an hour in the Reading Room, a lounge and a work desk under one roof that doubles as a library and a place to cool off from the afternoon sun. Take it with the book you brought and didn't plan to open yet.
Three hundred paintings by Thavorn — the old town's most established painter, running one of its first art studios — cover the guestroom walls in dreamscapes of Peranakan architecture, so look up before you unpack. Then look down at the nightstand: Kriangrat, a Phuket Baba artist, hand-painted it in floral and animal motifs and carved the wood detail by hand.
