The path in follows Wormald's Cut, past the water tower of a nineteenth-century flour mill, to a door on the quiet side of the River Foss. Cross the threshold and the city's noise stays outside: this is Serenity Inn the City, a one-bedroom apartment inside the old Leetham's Mill, less than three minutes' walk from York's centre. HUSH read the house rules: no guests under eighteen. For a couple who want York on foot by day and a river view with nobody else in the frame by evening.
Serenity Inn the City is the one-bedroom apartment on an upper floor of the mill, water below the windows instead of a street — the building sits back from Fossgate's evening crowd, on the quieter cut of the River Foss. There is a wine fridge in the kitchen and, if you want it, a home-cooked meal: a chef who lives elsewhere in the building takes your order by phone and leaves the food, still warm, at the apartment door, no contact needed. Free parking comes with the flat, which in York's old streets is close to unheard of. The building itself has been a flour mill, a cocoa warehouse, and, since 1989, apartments — older under your feet than anything you'll see in the Shambles. Jo and Phil have run it since 2017.
Serenity Inn the City sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 24 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
Order by phone and a home-cooked meal arrives at the apartment door, left without contact, still warm. Pick a bottle from the kitchen's wine fridge first and there is no reason to go out again tonight.
Coffee shops, cocktail bars and craft beer pubs line Fossgate, three minutes from the door along the Foss. Come back to the flat's quiet side of the river when you're done — the crowd doesn't follow you home.
The Gothic cathedral took two hundred and fifty years to build, from 1220, and its tower is visible from most of the walk into town. Five minutes on foot gets you to the door.
Three minutes from the apartment, timber-framed buildings from around 1350 to 1475 lean over one of Europe's best-preserved medieval streets, said to have inspired Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books.
