Le Theven

The road into Sibiril runs out at the water, on the Baie de Morlaix, and that's where the six lodges of Le Theven stand, terraced above a beach of fine sand. Built in wood and set inside a botanical garden, each one keeps the sea as its only view from the terrace. The house is adults-only, two to a lodge, and the sand out front is good for wading out after shellfish when the tide drops. For a couple who want the tide as the schedule, and nothing else on it.

Wood is the material throughout: six lodges built from it, spread through a botanical garden where the sea is the one fixed point past every terrace rail. Inside, a private bathroom, and in the Suite and Deluxe lodges, an equipped kitchen and a larger room to live in. Breakfast comes to the terrace if you book it the evening before, and the same terrace serves again after dark, under the stars. The garden goes unwatered by choice, weeded without pesticides, lit by LED; the towels are changed every three nights, the sheets once a week, and the cleaning through the season is done with almost no chemicals. Six lodges, run on what the house chooses not to do.
