The road into Salzburg's Old Town starts almost at the door: the Salzach promenade carries you past the Mirabell Gardens in a few minutes on foot, with the Congress Center and the main station just as close. Villa Carlton is the family-run Ceconi villa at that threshold — thirty-nine rooms across four floors, each floor its own interior concept, kept for adults from eighteen only. For anyone who wants a city break with no one underfoot but the two of you.

Every room here is non-smoking, air-conditioned, with a bath or shower, a writing desk and a safe as standard. The categories run from Comfort, at about 22 square metres, up through Superior and Premium to the Suites at 35, some with a balcony or a bay window, the largest keeping the bed and the sitting area in separate rooms. Thirty-nine rooms are spread over four floors, each floor its own interior scheme, so no two stays look quite alike. Downstairs, the lounge sits right off the entrance for a drink before you go out, and the terrace is small enough to feel like somebody's own garden. Breakfast costs nothing extra: croissants, coffee and tea, self-service in the Easy-Start Lounge every morning.

Hotel Villa Carlton - Adults Only sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 24 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

Fun, quirky boutique hotel within walking distance to Mirabell and the alstadt. I felt totally safe staying there as a solo female traveler.

To be fair, there were a couple of positive aspects. The bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious. However, these minor positives do not come close to outweighing the numerous negatives of my stay.

Our tips

The Easy-Start Lounge

Every morning, fresh croissants, coffee and tea are laid out in the Easy-Start Lounge at no extra charge and no booking needed — just come down. Want a proper sit-down breakfast or a brunch instead? Reception will book you a table at one of the cafés nearby.

Dinner at Blaue Gans

Getreidegasse 41–43, in the old town, is a few minutes' walk along the Salzach promenade from the door. It's one of the addresses the house keeps on its own shortlist of where to eat.

Along the Salzach to the Altstadt

The promenade runs from close to the hotel into Salzburg's Old Town in a few minutes on foot, passing the Mirabell Gardens on the way. Walk it in the evening, then come back to the lounge by the entrance for a last drink before bed.

Bring the dog, or the cat

Small pets are welcome here for a fee — dog, cat, or, as the house puts it, the family tortoise. Parking is in the courtyard, also for a fee and subject to availability, with a cheaper garage nearby if it's full.
