The road to Hanbury Turn runs beside the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, past Stoke Heath's lock flights, before it reaches the pub itself: a real ale house with four boutique en-suite rooms built in above the bar. The building was taken back to brick, beam and open fire in a refurbishment finished in June 2020. It takes no guests under eighteen. For anyone who wants a weekend of towpath walks and a pint pulled from one of ten real ales on the bar.
Inside, the fires are the kind you sit near rather than photograph, and the seating around them was chosen for staying put in. The four rooms are new work over old bones: en-suite showers, quiet enough that the bar downstairs does not reach them, and free WiFi if you want it. There is no restaurant beyond what the kitchen sends up for breakfast, sourced locally and served before the bar reopens for the day's ten-plus real ales and ciders. Parking is on site but limited, so an early arrival gets the space nearest the door. It is a working pub with rooms above it, not the other way round.
Hanbury Turn sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 25 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
