H Eliza Thompson House, Historic Inns of Savannah Collection Rooms & prices

Jones Street still has its wrought-iron steps and cobblestones, uneven enough that the house asks you to watch your footing before it asks anything else. At the end of it stands the first house built on this street, raised in 1847 by Joseph Thompson for his wife Eliza and their seven children. It is now the Eliza Thompson House, an adults-only inn a short walk from Forsyth Park, kept for couples marking an anniversary, or anyone wanting a few days with nothing on the calendar but breakfast, wine, and a courtyard fountain.

The rooms come with private baths, soft robes, individual climate controls, and an in-room safe tucked into each one. Sixteen rooms are split between the Main House and the Carriage House, which looks over a brick-paved courtyard and a fountain — small enough that the courtyard is never crowded, and breakfast there most mornings has room to spread out. The day runs on three fixed pours: breakfast from eight to ten, wine and cheese from five to six-thirty, dessert and coffee from eight to ten at night. Stairs reach all four floors, so the wrought-iron and cobblestone outside continue, in their way, indoors.

Eliza Thompson House, Historic Inns of Savannah Collection sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 24 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

Our tips

Wine and cheese at five

The courtyard fills for wine and cheese from five to six-thirty, then empties out again before dessert and coffee arrive at eight. Both are included, poured daily, no reservation needed.

Mrs. Wilkes', down the street

A short walk from Jones Street brings you to Mrs. Wilkes', the Southern-cooking institution the inn's own site points guests toward first. Come back after for wine and cheese in the courtyard, poured from five.

Forsyth Park, minutes away

The inn sits just minutes from Forsyth Park and the squares around it — shopping, coffee, a bench to sit on before the walk back to the courtyard fountain.

The Carriage House courtyard

Ask for a room in the Carriage House and you look straight onto the brick-paved courtyard and its fountain, the quieter half of the inn, rebuilt in 1978 on the footprint of the original outbuilding.
