You reach Tadrai by helicopter: the resort's own transfer lifts off from Nadi Airport or Denarau and sets down on its private helipad, on the north shore of Mana Island in the Mamanuca group. From there it's a short walk down into Selena Cove, where two villas face a stretch of sand with no one else on it. Tadrai is adults-only and kept to two villas, for a couple who wants a week where the biggest decision is which of three beaches to have lunch on.
Each villa is its own building: 100 square metres of glass and stone set over its own plunge pool, a day bed on the deck, a stone bathtub inside. There's a king bed, an indoor and an outdoor shower, an espresso machine for the morning and a wine cooler for the evening — order dinner to the villa or walk up to Na Vatu, the indoor-outdoor restaurant that looks over the pool and out to the Pacific, where you can ask the kitchen for whatever you feel like or take the day's menu, built each morning around the local seafood. With only two villas, the pool and the beach never have a queue. Aaron McGrath, who runs Tadrai, says the staff learn which wine and which pillow a couple prefers before they've even landed.
