Villa Lala hides on a jungle-draped cove on the southern shore of Bahia de Banderas, reached by the water taxis and footpaths that thread the fishing village of Boca de Tomatlan. A green, thatch-roofed tower steps down the hillside to its own small beach and private pier, where the forest meets the Pacific and the loudest sound is the surf. There are twelve suites and no children here, an adults-only hideaway built for couples who want the bay to themselves.
The suites are open-sided rooms of driftwood, river stone and palapa thatch, several with a private plunge pool and a wooden swing set out over the water. Beds face the ocean, balconies hang above the treetops, and hammocks catch the breeze coming off the cove.

Book one of the suites with a private pool and the day rearranges itself around water. A rope swing hangs over your own small pool, the bed sits a few steps behind it, and the glass slides back so the jungle and the sea become part of the room. Driftwood columns and hand-woven lanterns keep everything rooted in the hillside.
Every level of the tower opens onto a terrace above the bay. Loungers and a woven hammock sit under a palapa roof, wicker lamps sway overhead, and the water shifts from turquoise to gold as the sun drops behind the headland. It is the kind of place where an afternoon disappears without anyone reaching for a phone.
