In the fishing village of El Cotillo, on Fuerteventura's wind-scoured north-west coast, Cotillo House keeps a quiet corner of the island for adults. The building was once the old Hotel Mariquita Hierro; a careful remodel in 2021 turned it into a calm, adults-only house a few minutes' walk from the harbour and the sand, where the day is measured by the light rather than by anyone else's schedule.
Rooms are simple and bright, dressed in deep teal and mustard against patterned Canarian tiles, each with a ceiling fan, a smart TV and a private shower room. Downstairs, a plant-filled lounge and a small breakfast bar open off the old stairwell, while the roof holds the reason most people come.
Cotillo House sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at booking.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.
The whole top floor belongs to the sun. A slim pool is set into a warm timber deck, ringed by loungers on a strip of lawn, and a few steps lead up to a rooftop bar where the tables look out over the flat white roofs of El Cotillo to the ocean beyond. It is the space the house was rebuilt around, and the place its evenings drift towards.
Each room was stripped back and rebuilt in the 2021 renovation, and the same palette carries through them all: a lacquered teal headboard, mustard velvet cushions, woven mirrors and a wall of blue-and-white Canarian pattern. Twin beds, a ceiling fan and sheer white curtains keep things cool and uncluttered, with a fully fitted shower room next door.
