On the fellside above Bowness-on-Windermere, a Victorian manor house looks out over its own garden to the Lake District beyond. Sixteen rooms, each named for a fell or landmark you can see from the windows, sit inside walls built for a different century and kept comfortable for this one. Cedar Manor takes no guests under eighteen, kept for two people with nothing scheduled but a walk, a fire, and afternoon tea.
Inside, the rooms keep their Victorian bones: four-poster beds in walnut, wide windows that hold the garden and the fells beyond. Each of the sixteen rooms is named for a landmark you can see from the house, so the room you pick is also the view you get — Wansfell, Coniston, Langdale, Claife Heights. The Langdale Room has a spa bath under its canopy bed; the Claife Heights Room, the cosiest in the house, looks over the garden. Downstairs there are three places to sit: the dining room, the bar and lounge, and the terrace, where the morning sun comes through the trees. Jonathan and Caroline run Cedar Manor themselves, sourcing ingredients from local suppliers and serving breakfast cooked to order.
Cedar Manor sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 25 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
Ask for the Langdale Room and you get the king-size canopy bed, the spa bath, and the best view over the garden and the fells beyond. It is the room worth booking ahead for.
Breakfast runs 8.30 to 10am and is built around the Cumbrian Grill, cooked to order from local, seasonal produce — it is what won the house its AA Breakfast Award. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free versions are made with the same care.
When the sun is out, afternoon tea moves to the terrace: homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes on Royal Crown Derby china, with silverware from Arthur Price in Sheffield. In cooler weather it shifts indoors to the dining room.
