The hill above Arraial d'Ajuda climbs past the village center until the road opens onto the sea — greens and blues stacked in bands below you. At the top of that climb sit eleven rooms and a name borrowed from Tupi-Guarani, Maitei, meaning greetings: Hotel Maitei. Children under twelve are not taken here, as the house states outright. For anyone who wants the view, the wine list, and nothing else on the calendar.
Luciano Soares designed the house to sit inside the hillside rather than on top of it — contemporary lines against the rough plaster and timber of the village, built with local material and local hands. Every window in your room is turned toward the water, so the greens and blues that mark this stretch of coast move across the walls all day. Eleven rooms only, which keeps the restaurant's twenty-two seats from ever feeling crowded and the pool from ever needing a queue. Sommelier Núbio Ribeiro chose the thirty-seven wines in the cellar; chef Rafa Oliveira cooks the seasonal menu that chef Fernanda Possa signs.
Hotel Maitei sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, read on 25 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

The house lists these as things to do from here. Where a line is marked off-site it is not on the property — a dive site, a trail, a stable. That mark is ours, not theirs.
Maitei's wellness space runs a full menu of body and therapeutic treatments, and you don't need to be staying here to book it — day-use passes are sold to people staying elsewhere in Arraial d'Ajuda. Ask for a slot before the room fills.
The restaurant seats twenty-two, all by reservation, with a sea view from every table. Sommelier Núbio Ribeiro built the thirty-seven-label wine list around a seasonal menu signed by chef Fernanda Possa and cooked nightly by chef Rafa Oliveira.
Arraial d'Ajuda's centrinho — the sand-street strip of shops and bars the village is known for — sits close enough to walk down to for the evening. Walk back up the hill afterward, away from the bars and into the hotel's own hillside stretch.
