Tortuguero is a village with no roads, a thin ribbon of rainforest held between the Caribbean surf on one side and a web of jungle canals on the other, reached only by boat. Hotel Serendipity sits on that ribbon, a small adults-only house on the black volcanic sand where the whole point is quiet: rooms kept for adults, so the loudest thing all day is the water.
The rooms are bright and simple, built for two. Each has a queen bed under a ceiling fan, marble-tiled floors, deep blue curtains drawn back from tall windows, and a small kitchenette with a full-size fridge. Most open through sliding glass onto a private stretch of balcony or terrace looking into the green.

Behind the blue curtains each room looks straight into the canopy or down over the courtyard, the trees close enough to hear. Air-conditioning and a fan keep the tropics at bay, the marble floors stay cool underfoot, and a little kitchenette with fridge and counter means a late coffee or a cold drink never needs anyone else. Nights are dark and full of frog-song; mornings arrive with birds.
A few steps from the rooms the palms give way to open sand, dark and volcanic, with the Caribbean rolling in beyond. Blue chairs are set out in the shade to watch the surf, and at dusk the moon comes up over the water. This is a wild shore for looking rather than laps of swimming, the current strong and the beach mostly empty, kept for long slow afternoons rather than crowds.
