The cliff-edge path to Fira and on toward Oia runs right in front of the hotel, no car needed. It's about two kilometres to Fira's old port and museums; go in the early morning before the path fills, then come back to the balcony for the rest of the day.
Ask the concierge to arrange a winery visit — the island grows its vines in volcanic soil, which is why locals say Santorini has more wine than water. It's arranged for you, not self-drive, so you're back on the ledge in time for the light to change over the caldera.
