H Beso del Viento Rooms & prices

The road to Playa Isla Palo Seco runs out where the mangrove meets the Pacific, on Costa Rica's central coast — no town, no signs, just sand running twelve kilometres in either direction. Beso del Viento sits at that edge, five rooms decorated by its French owners, with no television and no crowd, only birdsong and the mangrove's own rustle for company. It takes adults only. For anyone who wants a week where nothing is scheduled but the tide.

Book the Ventilée for just a fan, the Climatisée for air conditioning and a queen bed, or the Supérieure for a king — whichever you choose, breakfast for two is already in the rate. None of the rooms has a television; the house says so itself, and what fills the quiet is birdsong, the mangrove's own rustle, and the capuchin monkeys that pass through on their own timetable, not yours. Five rooms in total, which is why the pool and the private stretch of beach never feel like anyone else's. The French couple who decorated the place answer every booking themselves, in French, English or Spanish, usually within a day.

Beso del Viento sets a minimum age of 18 in its own house rules, written at besodelviento.com, and read there on 11 August 2026. A house whose rule drops below eighteen, or stops naming an age, is taken off HUSH — how every house is checked.

Between sea and mangrove

The hotel sits on a long, narrow peninsula with the ocean on one flank and mangrove on the other, so the beach in front of it stays almost empty. The sand is fine and dark, the surf reflects the clouds at low tide, and coconut palms lean the whole length of the shore. There are no beach bars or vendors here, only the walk itself, which you can follow for kilometres in either direction without meeting much of anyone.

Flora and fauna

The garden is the other half of the property: mown lawn under tall coconut palms, groves of golden bamboo, and flowering shrubs heavy with white blooms. It is genuinely wild at the edges, and the wildlife treats it as home. Troops of white-faced capuchin monkeys move through the bamboo, squadrons of pelicans glide over the palm tops toward the sea, and iridescent green moths and butterflies settle on the fronds. Hammocks are strung in the shade for watching all of it go by.

A quiet boutique hotel on a gorgeous beach - the nearby properties are so spaced out that it felt like we had the beach all to ourselves! The pool was a definite highlight - soo warm naturally. Felt like heaven!...

Our tips

The Supérieure room

Of the three room categories, the Supérieure is the one with the king bed; the Climatisée comes with air conditioning and a queen; the Ventilée keeps only a fan. None has a television, and breakfast for two is already folded into whichever rate you choose.

Playa Isla Palo Seco

Twelve kilometres of untouched sand run from the property's own private stretch, with the waves as the only soundtrack — walk it or swim, and you are unlikely to cross anyone else along the way.

Capuchin monkeys in the mangrove

The mangrove behind the rooms is where the capuchin monkeys turn up, on their own schedule, alongside the birds that fill in for the television the rooms don't have. Ask the owners to put together a guided excursion into the nearby national parks if you want a longer walk than the beach gives you.
