Route 3 south gets you to Eagle Beach in about ten minutes — wider and calmer than Palm Beach, with no resort towers between you and the water. The wind-bent fofoti trees at the south end are best caught in the early morning or late afternoon light, then it's back to the garden for the rest of the day.
Arashi Beach is fifteen minutes away, near the California Lighthouse on the island's northwestern tip — the reef starts close to shore and the water stays calm most of the year, so it doubles as a swim and a snorkel without renting a boat.
